Lina Khalid Al-Maeena: A Journey of Challenge and Leadership from Jeddah United to Empowering Women and the Next Generation

In a world of rapid change and growing challenges, certain figures emerge who inspire generations and leave a lasting impact. One such figure is Lina Khalid Al-Maeena, a Saudi leader who wears many hats: mother, wife, writer, entrepreneur, and former member of the Shura Council. Her life story reflects determination, adventure, and national responsibility, a journey that began in Jeddah and reached global recognition.

Passion for Reading and Multiple Roles

Lina was born into a family rich in knowledge and achievement. Her grandfather was the Imam of the Holy Mosque in Makkah, while her other grandfather was a distinguished diplomat. Her mother was a working professional, and her father was a media personality. This environment instilled in her a deep love for learning from an early age.

By the age of seven, she was already reading Saudi newspapers. At 17, she became the editor-in-chief of Banat Jeddah magazine, showcasing early leadership in communication and youth empowerment.

A Spirit of Adventure and Challenge

For Lina, life has no meaning without challenge. She embraces adventure within the values of her culture and faith. From skydiving to reaching the Everest Base Camp, she consistently seeks experiences that push boundaries. To her, adventure is not about breaking rules but about leaving a mark and creating impact.

Jeddah United: Sports as a Tool for Change

In 2003, Lina transformed her passion for basketball from a hobby into a pioneering venture, Jeddah United, the first women’s sports institution under a commercial license in Saudi Arabia.

The mission extended beyond fitness and training. Jeddah United became a platform to:

  • Promote sports culture in the Kingdom.

  • Build physically, mentally, and spiritually strong generations.

  • Change stereotypes of Saudi women locally and internationally.

Today, Jeddah United stands as the first private women’s team to win the Saudi Games gold medal twice in a row, now aiming for a historic third championship.

From Journalism to the Shura Council

Lina’s journey did not stop with sports. In 2016, she was appointed as a member of the Saudi Shura Council during a pivotal stage of national transformation. This golden opportunity shifted her voice from the press to the highest decision-making platform, enabling her to raise critical issues such as environmental sustainability in the holy cities and increasing sports participation across the Kingdom.

Strengthening National Identity and Culture

Lina believes one of the greatest challenges facing today’s youth is the erosion of linguistic and cultural identity in the digital era. To counter this, she champions initiatives to promote the Arabic language and national belonging—from sports tournaments with Arabic slogans to campaigns like Talk to Me in Arabic. For Lina, this is a different kind of adventure, but a vital one for building a generation proud of its language, faith, and heritage.

Investing in Sports and Education

In recent years, Jeddah United has partnered with the University of Business and Technology, becoming its official educational partner. The goal: elevate sports academically and through research. Lina calls on leaders and investors to support R&D in the sports industry, emphasizing that sports is a multi-billion-dollar sector and a powerful avenue for Saudi Arabia to expand its global influence through sports diplomacy.

A Special Signature: A Fragrance That Tells the Story of a Nation

Beyond sports and public service, Lina launched a Saudi fragrance inspired by the heritage of Jeddah, Makkah, and the story of Eve. She describes it as a national product made with love and loyalty, carrying the Kingdom’s message to the world. She plans to market it digitally soon so it becomes accessible to all.

What Makes Lina Al-Maeena a Leader?

Lina is not just an expert or entrepreneur; she is a listener, mentor, and servant leader. People turn to her for advice on issues ranging from business to family to politics. She believes that true leadership is about service and impact, not titles or positions.

Lina Khalid Al-Maeena’s journey from a curious reader in Jeddah to a national leader, sports pioneer, and cultural ambassador tells a story of empowerment, vision, and relentless dedication. She is a living example of Saudi Vision 2030: empowering women, developing the sports sector, and strengthening national identity.
